So I was looking at my calendar today as I was finishing up my annual appointment with my “girl doctor” and I realized that I have have a bunch of appointments coming up. AGAIN. Time goes by so fast it seems. So besides my normal every other week schedule for Herceptin I need to do a bone scan, a CT scan, and a MUGA which measures how my heart is doing while on Herceptin. I do all of these things in Ann Arbor (2.5 hours away) so it would great if I could knock it all in one day. But that is not possible as the bone scan and MUGA both use radioactive materials and can’t be done in one day. Oh and my doc today recommended a bone density test, which I agree would be good, but it is ONE MORE THING to do. Wow, it’s so hard to act like everything is just like everyone else when you are constantly managing your health.
Last night I spent a good hour doling out my vitamins into AM and PM packets and looking at what I needed to reorder. I should redo my blood work for that as well, maybe we can do that long distance as well.
I guess all I’m trying to say is that there is a lot to do to manage your own healthcare. Add in a dentist appointment and I’m about over the top. But if I didn’t do it who would?
I know it is worth it, but I would love to look at my calendar and find it appointment free.
